When and Why do we Celebrate Father's Day?
The Day of the Father is celebrated on March 19 in the countries of European Catholic tradition coincide with the Day of St. Joseph , father of Jesus. But not in all parts of the world parents are honored on this date.

The idea of creating Father’s Day arose in the United States, specifically in 1910, when a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to pay tribute to her father who had raised her and her five siblings alone without help from anyone on a state farm from Washington. Sonora came up with the idea while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day at Church. She proposed the date for June 5, which was her father’s birthday.
In 1924 came the first official statement from President Calvin Coolidge that supported the idea of establishing a national father’s day, although it was not until 1966 that the final statement from President Lyndon Johnson arrived, setting the date for the third Sunday in June, for the USA.
The celebration was gaining followers and spread throughout the world, yes, with different dates and traditions. What is really important is that we have a day to honor our parents, tell them how much we love them and how important they are to raising children. And the ideal would be to extend this day to every day of the year, because parents will always be by our side when we need them.
In Spain it is a tradition on Father’s Day to meet as a family with parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and give them a present that symbolizes our love for them. In schools, children often make crafts to give to dad.
What to do to celebrate Father’s Day?
Any act that shows your father that you remember him and that you appreciate him will be more than enough to make him happy. If you are far away, a call, and if you live in the same city or a short distance away, perhaps you can pay him a visit and invite him to eat or do some activity that you all like.
Although he will surely be content if you go to visit him and give him a hug, you can also give him some nice detail, such as a framed photo of yourself, photo magnets for the fridge, a book, a record or something he likes. Nobody becomes bitter by a candy.
